Accessibility Statement

This accessibility statement applies only to the child poverty system map. It does not apply to any other content found on data.gov.scot.

This website is run by the Scottish Government. We want it to be accessible and usable for as many people as possible.

We try to make our site more accessible by using:

  • Easier-to-read colours.
  • Colourblind-friendly colours.
  • Larger fonts.
  • Plain English, where possible.

You should be able to:

  • Change the zoom level, window size, and window orientation.
  • Navigate most of the website using a keyboard.
  • Navigate most of the website using speech recognition software.
  • Listen to the introduction and explanation text using a screen reader.

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

Scottish Government commits to making its websites accessible, in accordance with the accessibility regulations (the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018).

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 (WCAG) A and AA success criteria, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.

Potentially non-accessible content

The content listed below is compliant with the accessibility regulations, but it may not be fully accessible:

  • Some of the text in the introduction is complex English.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

The system map does not have a text alternative. People using a screen reader can not access or interpret the information. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content).

The interactive system map cannot be navigated using a keyboard. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.1.1 (keyboard). The system map is also provided as a large-sized static image as an alternative. Users can pan and zoom the static system map using standard browser functionality.

Disproportionate burden

Interactive system map

The interactive system map is produced by third-party software and libraries. It has the following accessibility issues.

  • It cannot be read by screen readers or assistive tools.
  • Some of the text content overlaps.
  • The font size, font style, and colour scheme cannot be changed.
  • It cannot be navigated using a keyboard.
  • It does not respond to the browser’s zoom settings.

We believe that fixing the accessibility issues with the interactive system map would be a disproportionate burden within the meaning of the accessibility regulations.
