Understanding data licences
Every dataset has a licence that tells you what you can and cannot do with the data. This page explains the licences used on data.gov.scot.
Open Government Licence
Most datasets are published under the Open Government Licence (OGL). This is a standard UK government licence designed to make data easy to reuse.
Under this licence you can:
copy, publish, distribute and transmit the data
adapt the data – for example, by combining it with other data or creating charts and visualisations
use the data for commercial purposes
However, you must acknowledge the source of the data.

Other licences
Some datasets may be published under a different licence.
The dataset page shows the licence for each dataset. Check the licence before you use or share the data.
Using data from this site
For most datasets on this site, you can use, share and republish the data freely. This includes:
reports
apps
research
journalism
commercial work
You must attribute the source as the licence requires.
If you build something others will use, consider adding a link to the dataset page so they can view the original data.
