Description
Data for Digital Technologies is from Scottish Annual Business Statistics (SABS). SABS is largely sourced to the Annual Business Survey, conducted by the Office for National Statistics and measures the non-financial business economy. The industry sectors not covered in SABS are the financial sector and parts of the agriculture and public sector. The SABS statistics are best suited to the analysis of industry sectors. All figures are in current prices (i.e. values have not been adjusted for inflation).

The following industry is not included in 2009 only, as there are no business sites in Scotland in this year for: Publishing of computer games (SIC 5821). Joint totals for Manufacture of consumer electronics & Manufacture of magnetic and optical media (SIC 264 & 268) are provided for time series. However, there are no business sites in Scotland in 2008-21 for: Manufacture of magnetic and optical media (SIC 268).

However, there are no business sites in Scotland in 2008-21 for: Manufacture of magnetic and optical media (SIC 268).
Counts of the number of enterprises operating within each industry have been included. The same enterprise may operate in more than a single industry, although in Digital Technologies Totals there is a single enterprise count.

The Annual Business Survey, from which the statistics are largely derived, covers approximately two thirds of the economy. The main sectors not covered are the financial sector & parts of agriculture and the public sector. Industries are compiled using Standard Industrial Classification (SIC 07) codes. A SIC code is allocated to a business site according to its main activity.
